Gumstix technical discussion and support may be obtained without charge via the Gumstix community. Links to the mailing list signup and archives are posted on the left side of the main page of the Developer Centre at www.gumstix.org.

Getting instructions are also posted in the Developer Centre which include instructions for updating the image on the NAND.

Why so many inconsistencies??

My Overo does not work the way the instructions are worded at all. Let me list some of the items which don't work as instructed on the Gumstix website:

  A) There is no "/dev/sde1" microSD card. My Overo names it "/dev/mmcblk0". This is the default name after i bought it. I did not modify it in anyway. A big source of confusion.
  B) "apt-get" is an unrecognized command on my Overo.
  C) The instructions say "Android in Four Commands" - yet "git" is an unrecognized command. Is there a prerequisite to the four commands? Why didn't mine come with "git"?
  D) "opkg update" fails to download anything because it can't find the repositories. Why does the default refer to "unstable gumstix" paths anyway?!!
  E) I can only assume these problems exist because I received an old image in the NAND. However these are instructions for upgrading the image. How can we get off the starting block?!

Gumstix looks like a good product, however these are serious problems. The community will only benefit and flourish when the are resolved. Or did I get a bum Gumstix? Unfortunately there is no phone number of anyone to talk to readily available. I have to say poor customer support for Gumstix.

Please help! Steve
