This page collects wisdom regarding the breakout boards.

breakout-vx

I've heard that the breakout-vx has one USB socket, a "USB host" socket (so you can plug it into things like keydrives). It is only compatible with verdex motherboards.

The breakout-gs has one USB socket, a "USB client" socket (so you can plug it into a PC). Other than that, they're pretty similar.

breakout-gs

breakout-gs is compatible with the basix or connex. It is also compatible with the verdex, although it does not allow as many signals to be accessed as the breakout-vx does.

breakout-gs Known Issues

On R277 of the breakout GS I2C is labelled incorrectly. Is swapped with STUART silkscreen.
RXD <-> SCL
TXD <-> SDA

UARTS

For the R901 board:

Looking at the bottom side of the breakout-gs board (the side with the labels for all of the through-hole test points), and holding the board so that the 60 pin Hirose connector is at the top. The layout of the UARTs is as follows:

    60 pin connector
BTUART (aka BT)
      HWUART (aka Y1)

      FFUART (aka Y0)

STUART (aka IR)
       Power

(A picture would be worth 1K words here. But this is whave we've got for now).

Headers

To get a header that will fit in the the 4-way 1.27mm (50 mils) plated through holes on the breakout-gs expansion board:

Digikey part #:

- H2193-ND for the straight 4-pin socket

- H3322-ND for the right-angle 4-pin socket

These are the DF-13 series from Hirose. They both fit nicely beside the power plug.

It's a good idea to use the right-angle version for connecting to the FFUART pins on the back of the Audiostix2.
